My text alert sounded: "Hey Dad! How about Peet's for coffee!" My adult daughter wanted to spend time with me once again. It was a common occurrence . . . a call or a text, several times a week, in fact, but it never failed to bring a smile to my face. Somehow, despite my brokenness, I had succeeded in my attempt to heed the most important call of a father. How? By spending time--quality time--with my child. And a significant portion of that time was spent reading together. When fathers consistently read to and with their children, the short- and long-term outcomes are magical. Reading to your child promotes and encourages a sense of imagination and adventure. It creates a relationship of trust between the reader and the listener. And reading to your child promotes a desire within them to understand the nature of God. Dad, consider reading to your child.
